Proprio in questo momento, nei campi di avena della Russia, una mamma di orso bruno lascia la foresta per cercare del cibo. L'orso necessità dell'avena, ricca di proteine e grassi, per sopravvivere al prossimo letargo. Tragicamente, qualcosa di diverso dal pasto sta aspettando gli orsi.
Il suono di uno sparo e l'orso cade al suolo, vittima dell'annuale caccia all'orso in Russia che lascia dai 3.000 ai 4.000 cuccioli di orso uccisi o orfani ogni anno. Quando arriverà l'inverno, le mamme orse saranno svegliate dal letargo dai cani dei cacciatori e poi uccise, lasciando i cuccioli soli in uno scuro rifugio senza possibilità di sopravvivere.

Right now in the oat fields of Russia, a mother brown bear comes out of the forest to feed. The bear needs the oat harvest, rich in protein and fat, to survive its upcoming hibernation. Tragically, something else lies in wait for the bear than just a good meal.

A shot rings out and the bear falls to the ground, victim to Russia’s annual bear hunt which will leave 3,000 to 4,000 bear cubs killed or orphaned this year alone. When winter comes, mother bears will be lured from hibernation by barking dogs and then killed, leaving its cubs alone in a dark den with no chance of survival.

Se i cuccioli non saranno salvati, moriranno da soli e finiranno in zoo privati i nei circhi. Se il cucciolo sarà uno dei pochi fortunati, potrebbe essere salvato e portato al più vicino centro del "Progetto orso orfano" fondato dallo scienziato di fama mondiale Valentin Pazhetnov.
Dal 1995, IFAW finanzia le innovative tecniche di Pazhetnov per allevare e riabilitare i cuccioli di orso. Da allora, più di 100 orsachiotti Russi sono stati rimessi in libertà.
I cuccioli salvati vengono nutriti con biberon con una speciale formula di latte, 5 volte al giorno, massaggiati dopo ogni pasto e scaldati con speciali tappeti. Non si parla mai mentre si sta con i cuccioli e il contatto umano è lasciato al minimo, così facendo si rende gli orsacchiotti in grado di tornare allo stato selvatico senza diventare addomesticati.

 

If the cubs are not rescued, they die alone or end up as “pets” or circus props
If the cub is one of the lucky few, it may be rescued and brought to the nearby Orphan Bear Project run by world-renowned scientist Valentin Pazhetnov.
Since 1995, IFAW has funded Pazhetnov’s innovative techniques for raising and rehabilitating bear cubs. Since that time, more than 100 Russian bear cubs have been successfully released into the wild.
The rescued cubs are bottle-fed warm milk formula five times a day, massaged after each feeding, and warmed with special carpets. Voices are never used while working with the cubs and human contact is kept to a minimum, enabling the cubs to successfully return to the wild without becoming tame

In molti posti dell'Europa, l'orso bruno è estinto. Gli orsi bruni cacciati in Russia appartengono all'ultima popolazione sana al mondo.
Molti cuccioli vengono salvati quando pesano solo 1 (=450 grammi) o 2 (=900 grammi) libbre e non potrebbero sopravvivere senza le loro madri. Ma con il tuo aiuto, queste piccole manciate di pelo diventeranno dei sani e adulti orsi, prima o poi rimessi in libertà nelle foreste russe protette.
Insieme possiamo fare la differenza per questi cuccioli e altri animali nel mondo. Abbiamo già fatto delle campagne vittoriose per vietare la caccia nelle tane in 3 distretti russi e stiamo lavorando duramente sul parlamento russo per l'emissione di una legge federale anti-crudeltà.

In many places in Europe, brown bears are extinct in the wild. The bears being hunted in Russia are from the last healthy brown bear population in the world.
Most bear cubs when rescued weigh only one or two pounds and cannot survive without their mothers. But with your help, these tiny handfuls of fur will grow up to become healthy bears – eventually released into Russia’s protected forests.
Together, we can make a real difference for these cubs and other animals around the world. We have already successfully campaigned for a ban on den hunting in three Russian districts and we are pushing hard for federal anti-cruelty legislation in the Russian Parliament.
